Sophie’s Place

Sophie’s Place is named after a sweet angel who was taken from her family much too soon.

Newborns In Need is made up of volunteers who are dedicated to providing babies with needed essentials.  Special volunteers feel the responsibility of providing items for the little ones who do not survive.  Many have faced infant loss and use this outlet to honor their own child; others wish to use their talents to offer comfort to a grieving family.

Tiny soft buntings for little ones under 22 weeks up to full-term bereavement outfits, Newborns In Need items are provided to families to dress their child and take a memory photo.  These outfits are placed inside handcrafted, soft memory envelopes along with a small hankie, blanket or cap for the family to take home.

The need for these precious items are great and we are reaching out to sewers, knitters and crocheters who can help us offer some comfort to the grieving family.  If you can help create a very special outfit, please review our pattern suggestions for burial and bereavement items, and send your special creation to our Pfafftown office.

wedding dress

One wedding dress can provide enough fabric to make 10 bereavement gowns.

If you cannot sew, knit or crochet, you can still help.  Did you know that one wedding gown can provide 10 babies with their keepsake outfit?  If you have a gown that you wish to put to good use, or know of stores or shops that would donate, please inquire on our behalf.  We will contact the owner and provide appropriate donation forms and shipping information.  You can also organize a donation drive in your community.  Contact our office for more information.

Special Thank You Letters

“I received a baby blue crochet blanket that was given to me while I held my 16-, almost 17-week miscarried son.  I will always have that reminder that he touched it (it was wrapped around him) and I felt it on him.  Thank you for giving me that momento that I will always cherish forever.  The work that you do is wonderful and is very much appreciated especially in a very hard time when nothing makes sense – it shows that someone cares and understands and at that moment and later on you need exactly that.”

“I just wanted to email and say Thank You to this organization.  We lost our baby girl on 5/26/10 at 40 weeks + 2days.  She was 7lbs, 4oz and 21″ long … Addison Lynn.  There were cord/placenta problems right before delivery and she was born sleeping, but beautiful as ever.  I received a Bereavement Layette and beautiful blanket from your organization.  I did not bury her in this outfit or blanket as it’s the only thing that I have that ever touched her skin, so I keep it and hold it often.  It comforts me when I miss her so very much.

I’m in MI, but I’m not sure what chapter this gift came from.  I would like to send a thank you.  I just needed to tell you it’s a wonderful thing your organization does providing this service to families like mine.  A sincere, heart-felt THANK YOU!!“
