Why Sleepers in September?

Newborns lack the ability to increase their body heat by shivering and do not have the body fat needed to warm themselves once they are cold. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends keeping soft objects and loose bedding out of the sleeping area for at least the first 12 months.

Overheating can raise the risk of infant sleep death, also called SIDS, (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Studies have shown that thick clothing, too many layers and high room temperatures increase the risk of SIDS. Our Sleepers in September drive supports Safe Sleep practices by collecting sleepers for babies in need so they can maintain a safe temperature.
